I have seen a lot of people using stairwells and then completely ignore the handrails that are provided on the stairwells. This is unsafe. If you lose your balance or trip on one of the stairs, you may fall and break a very vital part of your body: a bone, your neck, or even your spinal cord. The handrails are not for decorations. Please use them.
Handrail Safety
In most staircases, you will find handrails on either side of the stairwell running along the entire length of the staircase. Contrary to what many people believe, the handrails are not for decoration. They are actually installed to help users stand firm when they trip on lose their balance on a staircase.
Some people have complained to me in the past that they may contact germs from touching the handrails. My answer? Carry a portable hand sanitizer always. The handrails are important, please use them and encourage others to use them too.
