I was doing a routine tour of the occupational work environment where I am a safety leader when I came across a contractor with some awful set of safety shoes.
I stopped him and coaches him on why it is absolutely unacceptable to come to work in such shoes. I also requested for his supervisor and asked him to change the shoes immediately.
Nevertheless, I felt sad about the event because the guys I spoke with assume that the whole PPE concept is just to use one. The importance of whether or not the PPE is wore correctly, is the right spec, and in good condition is lost to them.
The safety community in Nigeria has a lot of work to do still.
