INTERPRETATION OF SAFETY SIGNS

Safety signs are provided as health maps that are supposed to warn us of danger, direct us to safety, or even ask us to help other people. We should know these signs and their interpretation so that we can protect ourselves, protect others, or preserve nature. Can you Identify the signs shown below:
An AED Machine Sign
This sign signifies the presence of an AED machine. This means Automated External Defibrillator. It is used to resuscitate people who are unconscious, not breathing, and have no or faint pulse. The machine is very easy to use, and provides guidance for its own use.
An Assembly Point
This is the sign for an emergency assembly point. So, whenever you come across this sign in an emergency situation, please assemble in the area.

CO2 Fire Extinguisher
This is the signs for a fire extinguisher, but not just any fire extinguisher. It is the sign for the Carbon Dioxide fire extinguisher. It is recommended for fires involving all forms of electrical fires.

Drinking Water
 Not all running water sources produce clean drinking water. So, when you see this sign, it means that the water running in the system is clean, drinking water. So please go ahead and help yourself.

Dry Chemical Powder Fire Extinguisher
This is the sign of another fire extinguisher. This time it represents a Dry Chemical Powder fire extinguisher. This type of fire extinguisher is suitable for almost any type of fire. Please use it only if you are trained on how to use fire extinguishers.

E-Stop
This is the sign for an emergency stop. In case of an emergency, you may want to hit this button.

Emergency Phone

This sign is the sign for an emergency phone. It is usually a direct line to an emergency response dispatcher. Please dial the emergency numbers in case of an emergency.
Fire Blanket
A fire blanket is a safety device that is used to prevent oxygen from the air from getting to a combustions reaction. Whenever you see this sign, please use the blanket and place it over the fire. It will extinguish the fire in less than 10 minutes.

Emergency Call Point
An emergency button is usually attached to an alarm system, such that whenever it is activated, it triggers an emergency team into action. So please, in case of an emergency, go ahead and press the button.

Emergency Exit

This sign represents an emergency exit door sign. It is usually installed on fire doors that lead directly to an open space that is clear from the building under fire. Use it only when there is an emergency and never block doors that carry this sign on them.

Hose Reel
This sign is important for fire response teams. Whenever you see this sign it means that there is a fire hose reel around. You can only fight fire if you are trained and qualified.

First Aid Box
This means a First Aid Box is in place. There are many items inside the first aid box and only people who are trained on how to identify these items and what they are used for may attempt to use the first aid box. Please, only an emergency response personnel may touch this box.


GHS
 You are most likely to encounter a combination of the signs shown above on certain new materials. there are a list if the Global Harmonization Symbols of GHS for short. They represent: Flammable, Oxidizer, Corrosive, Explosive, Toxic, Dangerous, Environmental Hazard, A compressed gas, and Carcinogenic.

No Smoking Sign

This means that smoking is not allowed in the areas where this sign is displayed. Usually, locations such as this will also have a smoking designated area where people can go and actually smoke. Please do not violate this sign, you may start a fire.

Do Not Drink
This sign clearly suggest that the water running inside the system is not safe for drinking. Please do not ignore this sign, you may expose yourself to severe health risks if you do so.

Get Help Here
This sign encourages people who are physically challenged to approach the sign and get help. This help varies and depends on the location. For instance, there may be a wheel chair under the sign in a car park on in an airport.

Safety Shower
This signs represents a safety shower. It can be found in areas where people are likely to get powders from chemicals on their bodies. Also, it may be available in a forklift workshop when there is risk is electrolyte splash from an electric forklift battery.

Smoking Area Sign
This sign indicates that the area has been designated a smoking area. Please use this area when you feel like taking a smoke. However, please always remember to drop the used sticks inside an ash tray.

Storm Shelter
Storm Shelters offer protection in case there is a storm. Please take refuge in such areas whenever you are caught in a storm. They are usually found in areas with high storms.

Stretcher
This is a stretcher sign. There are found in most public places for public use. There are easy to use and necessary to transport accident victims, or people who suddenly can no longer walk. A wheelchair may also be a substitute to this.
